MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Master Cylinder?

I am still having problems with the clutch on my MKII 1098 midget.

I was experiencing a very hard pedal, which I tracked down to a blockage in the pipe between the MC and Slave, so I replaced the pipe and now the pedal is much better but I am having problems when trying to bleed it.

I have a new clutch assy, new slave cylinder and I have replaced the seals on the MC.

When I bleed it I appear to have got all the air out. When the pedal is depressed the slave moves the push rod out quite a distance, however it soon starts to creep back in whilst the pedal is still to the floor. I then try to bleed again and get a bit more air out, but then the same problem. I have tried pushing the slace rod all the way in but it makes no difference.

The MC does not show any signs of fluid leaking.

I am thinking that I must need a new MC, but brfore I order one can anyone confirm that the creep is due to a leak in the MC or is there something else I should check first.

If the fluid level is not going down then it simply must be going back past the MC piston (according to the Sherlock Holmes principle)
What was the nature of the blockage? Rubber or rust?
Can you drain some fluid out of the MC and have a look for crud/rust on the walls and floor of the MC?

The blockage was a kinked pipe so no debris in there.

I have had a look at the MC reservoir and it is all clear with no debris.

So it sounds like you say that the air is getting back in through the MC piston seals, so it looks as if I need to buy a new MC :-(

Surely its worth fitting a seal kit in the M/C and see if that helps?

Got a mew MC from Chase MG yesterday, top man.

Fitted today all is now well, back on the road.........

I put in another thread that I was advised that changing the seals didn't usually work out others had different opinions

someone quite rightly asked if the seals need replacing every 30(?),000 miles then that would that mean changing the MC instead and that seemed a bit ott to him

no one gave a reply

book says 18 months between fluid changes too
