MG Midget and Sprite Technical - master cylinders

I have a "67 1275 with a singel line braking system.

And having had a lot if MC troubles (both brake and clutch) i wondered what the bores are?

Are they the same for brake and clutch and is it just the size of the reservoir that differs, or is there anny thing else?
o Könemann

The brake master is 3/4" but I don't know the clutch dimensions. As far as I'm aware it was the same right the way through the spridget's production.
Be careful when ordering new seal sets, as there are two different types of masters which look virtually identical. That is both for brake and clutch, the only difference is a very faint circle around the barrel of the cylinder.
Graham P

The early midgets/sprites had 7/8" bores, didn't they?
Adrian

i thought the combined cylinder was 7/8
and it worked with brake drums not disks

if the piston of a BMC fits a CMC than the bore is the samen and they should be interchangeble
o Könemann

The combined MC was 7/8" bore for the drum braked cars and 3/4" for those with discs.
David Billington

But the 7/8 can be used for the diskbraked cars but you have to remove the anti returnvalve from the brake master cilinder. Otherwise the pads will stick. Its a bit tougher to brake but the travel is less. Its a good alternative for silicone fluid. O dear did I start the discussion again?:-)
Bas Timmermans

All very true, but the original query was about a 67 model, single cct brakes. Seperate master cylinders were fitted to them, why would he want to retrofit a more expensive, less obtainable dual MC setup ?)

Download the MOSS catalogue for your car, all of the brake parts and differences are listed there, makes life easier.
Graham P

Maybe because the old dual units are newly produced and cost about 160 euro's? Thats cheaper then 2 separate units.

Bas

I was on my way to remove the old unit and replace with 2 separate units but then found out they were available again at a fair price.
Bas Timmermans

that's why i want to go the wilwood route
wilwood has verry nice smal mc's for E60,-

so there wil be comming a nice seperate system
onno

Onno,

If you want I have a seperate MC pedalbox. I already got one from one of the BBS friends and with the new dual master its sitting in a box.

If you want I can bring it to Assen.
