MG Midget and Sprite Technical - MG Engine Rebuild DVD
Howdy MG-sters... Can anyone recommend a rebuild video (preferably DVD) product from either side of The Pond? There is one source in Ontario, Canada west of my location - and I have seen other products for the SU carbs...but I am now looking for more assistance with the engine internals, etc. I prefer to find something in DVD format - I know that this product [in the link below] is for MGBs - but has anyone seen anything comparable for the midgets? I have the "usual suspects" in reference hardcover book form - but I thought that something more digital in nature might be available out there...even Gutenberg's Bible was superceded by technology... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Dr-Doolins-MGB-Engine-Rebuild-DVD-/230560300812#ht_606wt_939 This product has been available on eBay (USA) site for quite some time now. Thanks for any comments... Mike P. Buffalo, NY |

This covers general a series build well but is aimed at the mini so only directly relevant for a percentage and clearly doesnt cover removal etc. http://www.minisport.com/mini-spare-parts/info_DVDUMBAS.html |
Dean Smith ('73 RWA) |
the DVD that Dean posted was the one that I was thinking of, and was looking for a link for (I have a copy and found it very informative, though, like Dean said, is focused on the mini), when I found this one, which I've not heard of before so can not vouch for, but it does look interesting: http://www.frost.co.uk/classic-vehicle-restoration-books-and-dvds/dvds/dismantle-restore-maintain-bmc-a-series-engine-dvd.html Norm "using the word, 'for' as many times as possible in a post" Kerr "...for, four for four is too much" |

Norm I've watched that DVD all the way through (and know the author vaguely) and it wont tell you much |

Wow! From the descriptions...one DVD [Ultimate Mini] is 4 hours and the other [MasterClass Video] is 40 minutes? How can that be... Both have similar prices...perhaps the 4 hour version is a better use of my time than watching another Yankees baseball game this summer - and possibly more informative.... Thanks for the follow-up and I will check out the shipping costs... Mike P. Buffalo, NY |

thanks, N Atkins, I was pondering whether to buy the "masterclass" one or not, and from your review I think that I will pass. The other one, Ultimate Mini, is really pretty good, and I do recommend it. Norm |

Norm I know nothing about rebuilding engines and that video didn't add to my knowledge rather likes a Haynes manual when telling you how to do the obvious and simple bits that if you didn't already know then you'd not attempt the job on the vid the engine is out of the car from the start just about all ancilleries off and a lot of the intertesting work is done off camera and sent away for others to do Nigel |

Here is another source for information: Mini Expert, Vol. 1 (August 31, 2006) Sorry, it is also mini focused, but since they use the same engine there's more that applies than doesn't. When I got my Ultimate Mini DVD I also got this magazine and they both seemed to compliment each other quite well. This magazine goes over many of the choices and offers commentary and pro/con of each. A great help when deciding about everything. http://www.grafixworld.net/1m/dl/Mini+Expert+-+Issue+1++2011.html When I googled on "Mini expert vol 1", a whole lot of free download choices came up, so I guess one has the option of either buying the print version, or getting a free one on-line, and then printing it out yourself.
