MG Midget and Sprite Technical - MG Midget 1500 rear back plate
Hello Can anyone please help, I am rebuilding the rear brakes on my MG midget 1500, and the back plate adjusters are seized, in fact the head has come of one of them, what I really need are new or good second hand back plates, but I understand these are really difficult to get hold of. has anyone else had the same problem. |

Have you tried the usual suspects - eBay, Mgbhive, Max, Richard Woolley - most can be found on the classifieds on here. |

Hi, a common problem and one not easily fixed! As you say the plates are NLA new and very few and far between on auction sites. But fear not, you will get the broken one out but you will need some patience and will power. start by putting some release oil on at regular intervals for a week or so. Then drill and tap a hole through the broken one. Use a bolt with a locking nut and, as the adjuster goes right through the back plate, screw it in and out the front of the plate. The use of a significant amount of heat may be required!! Do you know anyone with a gas welding set to provide the heat? New adjuster bolts are available... If things go really bad and you damage the threads you can always get adjuster repair kits from Moss Best of luck.... you'll need it... MGmike |

Many thank for your help, we will try and use old back plates. |

Or drop me an email if you're struggling, I just happen to have a couple on an axle that's about to depart. (I suppose I must be a usual suspect......) |

just remember you need to drill a 1/8th" hole in a 1275 one to turn it into a 1500 one as the locating pin on the slave cylinder is in a different place. |
