MG Midget and Sprite Technical - mg midget check strap coupling bracket
mg midget 1500 check strap coupling bracket does anybody know if this is welded in? Door check strap is flying loose and need to fix but area is covered in Ziebart and I don't want to clean unnecessarly. |

the door check strap is retained to the door by a metal "tee" piece sewn into the strap that won't fit through the slot in the door, and is retained to the A post by two screws, clamped by a "J" piece that distributes the load, and prevents cutting the strap by that curved end. Those two screws go into a reinforced piece that is, of course, welded to the A-post. not sure if this is answering your question, perhaps more information is needed, or a photo of what you've got... great reply Norm, my problem is at the A post. I have 2 clean holes 8mm size with no bolt or thread to go at. behind this is a box section which also holds the door courtesy light door switch which appears to be availble as a repair section. I am proposing a bodge repair with 2 rivnuts set into the holes and then an overplate to hold the check strap but was hoping to do a more original repair without the need for cutting and welding. best rgds Keith |
