MG Midget and Sprite Technical - MG Midget race prep 30 years ago
Hi I found my copies of CCC (Cars & Car Conversions) Magazine articles from the mid 1980s on preparing an MG midget for the road-going class of the MG Midget Challenge. See: http://austinhealeyspritemk2.blogspot.co.uk/2015/06/mg-midget-race-preparation-30-years-ago.html What parts were used, such as Rostyles and 731 cams, as well as prices and the regulations are interesting. Wonder how preparation for this same series [recently merged with the Sprite Series: www.mgmidgetchallenge.co.uk & http://www.mgmidgetchallenge.co.uk/regulations-and-forms/ ] and class is now? Any former/current Midget Challenge racers on the BBS? Cheers Mike |

I raced in the Austin Healey series in the 80's which was not as well publicised as the Challenge but we were allowed to compete occasionally. Grids were huge I recall Its fair to say that preparation did vary a bit depending on resources. It was very competitive in the road going class with close racing and not much in it between the Healey series cars and the Challenge cars I moved on to Modsports after a couple of seasons which was very different! Ironically I remember this article as it was a useful little guide. Fond memories |

Interesting article, thanks. The road going class has not changed too much - alloy wheels only now with Yokohama sticky tyres, the camshaft is free and that seems to be about it. Seam welding is not allowed. |

Very interesting article. So the 1098 had a better rear leaf spring than the 1275? Didnt know that |

Great article thanks for posting it Mike and at 05.10am! Dedication. CCC was my favourite car mag back in the 70s with a certain Terry Grimwood as the editor IIRC. |
