MG Midget and Sprite Technical - MGCC Sprint

Hi, are there any competitors on the BBS who sprint in the MGCC luffield series? I have an ex standard class midget race car that I wouldn't mind resurrecting and doing a few sprints in. I have looked at the regs and it looks like I will have to MOT,tax and Insure it. Put trim and carpets in and maybe put a hood in? That seems a lot of hassle. Any ideas on the easiest way to get out and have a go?
Thanks Mike.

Mike.

Whilst I haven't ever competed with the Luffield series, I do know that the rules and regs are quite strict and it would not surprise me in the least if you have to do all the above.
If I remember correctly, Andrew H was looking at doing some events with them in his J2 and has to carry his hood and frame otherwise he is to be put into a 'specials' class. I'm sure he will be along presently and add his comments (If he is within internet reach at Sea).
Whatever you have to do, you will be amongst similar cars and I'm sure you will have great fun.

Or, do your ARDS and come racing.....Much cheaper based on track time and you probably have to modify it much less.

Thanks for your comments. The regs do seem to suggest you must have a hood carried within the vehicle. Possibly not if you fit a hardtop. Thanks for your comment John, I would love to race again. The car was a midget challenge car in the eigthies and I raced it in the Cockshoot in the early nighties till it expired with a broken crank doing the 6hr Birkett at Snetterton! Its sat in various garages since then in various states of rebuild. I just thought sprinting was an easy and cheaper way to get back into competition but maybe not.

IIRC standard and road going A classes have to have full interior trim, road going B and specials don't. all classes except for specials to have a hood or hard top.
i was quite peeved that because i don't have a hood for my J2 anotherwise standard car would have been put into the specials class.
as it turned out, my J2 wasn't ready in time but i was very kindly loaned a P type for the silverstone sprint. i had a great day and all of the competitors and marshals that i met were very friendly and helpful. unfortunately i had to give the P type back to its owner.

Havge a look on the www.mgcc.co.uk forum, there's an active Sprint discussion board with regular competitors who will be ab;e to help you.

Also elsewhere on this site are links to the speed championship and the organsiers

Mike,

Here is a link to the Luffield Championship, including the 2008 Regulations, which should clarify your question:
