MG Midget and Sprite Technical - mgf seats in a midget
hi on lots of your advise i think i will see about fitting mgf seats in my midget. can anyone point me in the direction of a foolproof link on how to go about doing this. i know about swopping the seats over from left to right but how do i go about fitting the runners and then fitting them in the car? thanks. |

Roy I think you bolt them straight onto the floor... cue expert... A |
Anthony Cutler |
I gave you John Collins' blog site - it shows you in great detail how to do them - and I even told you about the ones he is selling ...!!!! |
rachmacb |
rach the ones john is selling are ideal apart from them being 135miles away from me. and while johns blog is fantastic i cant see on it where he does the seats. |
roy j |
Roy, The seats come with built in runners. There are two lugs at the back that you lop off with a grinder. Then you bolt them direct to the floor. |

My pics aren't on the blog, they are in my photobox pages, My fitting instructions are; basically swap seats over left to right, remove the seat belt tensioner/clip from mgf seats (and sell on through ebay at £5+ each!) The 2 eye shape brackets at the front, remove with angle grinder, the 2 brackets at rear, remove with angle grinder, the silver bar between runners, remove with angle grinder! (good tool that!) Place seat in car with seat slid forwards, drill through runners for rear seat bolts, bolt to floor, slide seat back, drill through runner neares the sill, bolt through floor, under car, measure 3 bolt holes distances apart, work out where 4th bolt goes, drill from underneath, bolt through runner through the floor, repeat for other seat! |
John Collins |
Then after removing brackets, this is what you are left with and its ready to bolt to the floor. hope its of help, regards, John |
John Collins |
roy this may be an expensive option but it sure as hell makes a difference Honda S2000 seats that would be my choice for a nice daily driven or weekend run midget |

On mine, I didn't remove the bright metal cross bar and I also retained the two circular lugs at the front which just tilt the seat base up a fraction, which I think is better. Peter, a friend has an S2000 and both he and I find the MGF seats in the Sprite more comfortable. |

... if you ask nicely, and John is around sometime and not tied to painting the nursery - and you don't mind waiting 'til MGLive - then it's POSSIBLE that I could collect them for you if you wanted them ..., I'm sure I'll be in the Tamworth area sometime between now and then - ash depending! |

I have cut off the brackets like John but welded on new ones and drilled holes in them that i can use the original factory holes in the floorplate of the midget. Makes it very easy to swap seats if you ever would like to in the future. I agree with Guy on lifting the front, it makes a much nicer sittingposition. |
Arie de Best |
Here i also removed the small aly bar.

And on this one also the front lumps.

I've got Fiat X1-9 seats in mine, extremely comfy and thin, closer to the ground and more space for the driver. fit straight in with just more holes in the floor |
Rob Armstrong |
thanks for the advice everyone and thanks for the email john. right now i gota go seat hunting. rach if i collect the seats at mglive i will need to bring my other car up as i wouldnt have room in the midget for the seats and everything else.thanks anyway. |
roy j |
roy just take out your passenger seat and drive a single seater up there - even remove the bulkhead between cockpit and the boot and you will have loads of room ;) |
PeterJMoore |
Does antbody have any pictures of the finished article - I'd like to change but could do with seeing what they look like installed |
Andrew Dunn |
Hi Andrew, heres a quick picture of mgf cloth seats in my sprite very comfortable too! |
John Collins |
Very comphy and great (side)support for your back/shoulders. |
Arie de Best |
Hi Andrew Since everyone is showing you inside - I thought I'd show you from the back ...! Hate to have to agree with Arie, but, the support is just so much better, and going around corners is less bumslide too :) |
rachmacb |
How heavy are they? |
Brad (Sprite IV 1380) |
Not a whole lot more than the original ones when you carry them! |
rachmacb |
Brad. About 6 kilos each seat heavier than the original seats in my mk3 Sprite, but the seats in the later Spridgets are heavier than earlier cars anyway so the difference won't be so great. Bernie. |

Liking the look of all those a lot - my std 1500 seats are falling to bits so I'm sold on converting. There's a couple of A1 ones at my local breakers so I will call in next week to try to do a deal. Thanks for all the photo's |
Andrew Dunn |
Andrew, I've got 2 sets of black cloth seats at the minute, + a set of light tan/cream leather seats email me for pics |
John Collins |
I'm still supple so i think i'll give the seats a miss until i'm old & spend the money on a LSD. |
Brad (Sprite IV 1380) |
John. what sort of condition are the tan seats in, how much do you want for them and when can I collect? |
Nick Sayle |
Nick, you have email John |
John Collins |
John, I'd be interested in a set of black seats if you still have them - depending on cost of course. I've sent you an e-mail. |
