MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Midget 1500 Gross Weight
Hi My brother is importing his MG midget 1500 (UK Spec) into Norway. Most formalities have been dealt with but he needs some reasonably accurate figures regarding the Gross Weight of the car. I have the following weightsa from a Moss Motors (US) catalogue: Gross weight 1011 kg 2229 lb Which I believe is weight with passengers Curb weight 838 kg 1649 lb And these from an email my brother got form an MG club Gross weight 974kg 2154 lb Which I believe is weight with passengers Curb weight 941kg 2074lb Which suggests weight with luggage BUT Kerb / Curb weight should be the same for both. Can anyone direct me to a fairly official looking document which shows Kerb / curb weight for UK car + gross weight (with luggage or with passengers). He knows he can get specs and date of manufacture from British Heritage at £45 but would prefer not to wait for another 10 days. Any help would be appreciated. ColinK |

Autocar Road Test, 14 June 1975 Kerb weight 780kg, 1,720lb (with water, oil, half full fuel tank. Note that 838kg/1,649lb which you gave do not convert by 2.205. |

I weighed my US spec 1500 with a full tank of fuel, spare, tools, hood, tonneau, etc. all but passengers and it tipped the scales at 1849 pounds or 839 kilos. That is exactly what the BL shop manual says. The manual says a UK spec car should weigh 1774 lbs./804 kg. |
