MG Midget and Sprite Technical - midget 1500 weber dgv
Does anyone have a picture of their weber dgv setup just in the process of installing mine but keen to see how people have routed the accelerator cable and choke. |

Why are you fitting a smaller carb to your car's engine that it rolled out of the factory with? |

The throttle control plate (sorry if I've got the name of the part wrong) attached to the primary throttle shaft may, as mine did, have a radius too large to achieve full throttle by connecting your cable directly to the drilled holes provided. I was only able to achieve 3/4 throttle using those, so I had to reduce the radius by making the aluminium bit held to the throttle control plate by the 2 nylock nuts in the pic. You can see that the point of attachment for the cable (at the cotter pin) is closer to the axis of the throttle shaft, effectively reducing the pull length required to achieve full throttle to something within the cable's total pull length. Thanks richard. I am fitting the dgv because I am fed up with messing about with the twin Su crabs and have this so thought I would use it. I am aware most people will say the twin Su are a better option but this set up will offer me a set and forget about it setup. |

The SU's are just as easy to live with when properly maintained and adjusted. But if you want a webber go for a 45 |

Richard can you confirm the routing of the water pipes and pipe from the rocker cover? I have a pierce manifold so presume you simply run a single pipe under the manifold to a T piece. Does the DGV utilise the Vacuum advance? |

This pic shows a port I tapped in the Pierce manifold for crankcase breathing with inline PCV valve. The flat spot on the manifold seemed custom-made for drilling and tapping so that's what I did. My engine only leaks oil in the usual amounts from the usual places so I'm hopeful that this location is providing some negative crankcase pressure, at least at partial throttle conditions. The 1/4" line directly above the brass elbow is the vacuum advance line on the provided port. My car runs great with the vac advance connected, however I have an aftermarket (Mo$$) distributor that may be quite different from yours. Note in the right foreground the fuel pressure regulator. My newish replacement fuel pump (Rover branded) overwhelms the Weber DGV. This was mandatory. Water lines (red) just visible at base of the intake manifold. |

Another view of the whole mess, with some of the the water lines visible. Throttle cable utilizes the stock bracket on valve cover. Choke cable runs behind the coolant reservior then alongside the battery, entering the cab in the radio console box. I should say that this carb has been utterly reliable since the day it went in. I've never owned a car with twin SU's so I can't comment on the joy of semi-constant tinkering that I am apparently missing out on. As Onno seems to suggest, this is NOT a performance carb, but for my needs it works a treat. Richard |
