MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Midget Front Valance

Hi everyone,

I've been rubbing down all of the panels ready for painting soon - my valance obviously amongst them. I have come to the point where I am thinking about modifying it to have either:
a) 3 large holes in it, horizontally across, roughly 12cm diameter.

(Can't find a picture anywhere...????)

OR

b) The two vents style:

The sixth picture down:

Any advice on finding more pictures of any works style midgets or how best to actually do the mod itself?

Cheers!

Josh, the two vent style is simply the front valance from a 1500 series Midget with some mesh installed. If you just want basic holes to allow cooling air to enter then a large hole saw is all you need. The lower portion of the valance is a double wall area so you'll probably have to do some hand work with a grinder or air powered body saw on the inside. For a more finished look you can weld in some exhaust tubing of the proper size or a hand formed duct from sheet metal. That's what I did in the center with exhaust tubing on the sides for the cooling ducts to the front brakes.

Josh, here's mine with the 1500 valance as mentioned above. Ignore the rivet heads on mine, as it's all aluminium behind it was the best way to attach it. You can get it either as the skin on its own or with the strengthening structure behind. I was doing away with all the standard stuff behind so it was fairly easy but I think it's a weld in job normally.

Sorry, that link doesn't seem to work now. Use the link then put 'John Payne' in the search.

Try John Wilman in the same search to see his blue Midget. Think that is a 1275 valance with the standard bumper iron holes, two smaller extra ones and a centre cutout for the oil cooler.
