MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Midget loom

Guys,

apologies as i have posted a thread similar to this before but need some more information.

I am restoring a 72 midget and wanted to change to alternator, i had decided to get the later loom for alternator and use that as old loom is shot anyway.

I am fine with the logic of this but much prefer the toggle switch type dash and wondered if i could just swap, are no of switches the same .

One obstacle i can see is new loom will be wired for ignition on sterring colum and old toggle dash will be ignition in dash

I was planning to buy loom with no hazard lights if that helps.

You can just bend that bit up in to the dash.
It might be a bit short because part is combined with the indicator wiring but that would just mean adding small bits (cut the right colour off the old loom)

With that in mind Andy I think I would either sort out my existing loom (In fact I personally would always do that) or I would buy the correct loom for my car and do a simple Alternator conversion.

It really is a simple thing to do and is far easier that modifying a new loom to suit yor car and your switches.

If you buy a new loom from Autosparks, they will alter any of it to suit your requirements.

Hm,

When ordering at Autosparks(US GAN6) you have to pick from 3 options:
1 Dash harness( I remember the dashloom was seperat and had to be connected to the mainwiring.

2 main harness i guess thats the remaining wiring mainloom?

3 body harness, what is this if the main harness isnt the mainloom?


Trying to remember from my midgetrestauration i 1997 i cant remember the wiring being in 3 parts: dash, main and body...
i thought just dash and main.

So in short: what is the main harness and what the body harness?

Arie, Main loom is the part under the bonnet and stratching to engine, fuses etc. Body loom is the one wich runs trough the left side to the back lights, reverse lights, etc.
