MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Midget mot failure
Hi there.i wonder if anyone can help? My 1978 midget has just failed its mot after being stored for 8 months.o/s rear brake binding(I'm assuming this is just adjustment of the shoe). O/s front wheel bearing has excessive play.(Do you need a press to extract the old bearings?) and lastly the Co % is 8.82. Would this suggest the car is running rich or is it a symptom of the length of time it has been laid up? Redex? Any suggestions on buying, changing the bearings,or anything else would be good.cheers |

rear brake probably a sticky cylinder front wheel bearings - don't mention them - my advice is to get some new ones and hopefully strike lucky with the play in the new set high CO is likely old fuel if you've not got new in it, or stuck floats or similar causing over-richness |

Good Evening, Well we can help with the wheel bearings. Please call 01787 479475 or email sales@meditech.uk.com Not a bad idea to replace both front wheel sets at once , but I would say that as we are selling them. See the wheel bearing threads for more info. Best regards, Chris Buckenham |

Hello P. Try this thread for wheel bearings also check with JLH for some various styles of wheel bearings The problem with wheel bearings for the midget is the midget requires a 2mm radi and moderns only come in 1 mm radi... or maybe its the reverse Ither way chris at the bottom of the thread is making new bearings to fit Other options are taper bearings or 40 degree angular contact bearings To find a truck load of info on the above 2 options google (mg midget taper front wheel bearings modification) or some variation of that as well as the same for the 40 D. contacts Prop |
