MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Midget road wheel weights
I'm sure this has been covered before, but i've trawled the archives looking..... Does anybody have accurate weights on the assorted wheel options for midgets. ie. 5 by 13 Minator, original rostyle, 5.5 by 14 Minator(for you K series specialists)etc. Reason being, I've just started stocking the new 5 by 13 Revolution, which now uses 60 degree tapered wheelnuts and are very light at 4.3kg, and a Hillclimb customer wants to get the lightest wheel possible.(Hillclimbers get very excited about loosing weight, especially rotational unsprung variety!) Many thanks kim |

13x5 UK-made Minator is 5.4 kg |

Kim are those the 4 or 5 spoke revo's and are the the same as the K&N miniators in offset (or slightly more inwards) And most importanly what sort of price should i be thinking of for a set of 4 |
Onno Könemann |
Hi Onno, These are the classic 4 spoke Revolutions with black centres and polished outer rim. They are the same offset as the Minator Minilite style wheel. ET 20, so should fit square arch cars as well as RWA. Compared to the original rostyle wheel (ET16 I believe), the inner face of the revolution will be 4mm further in towards the spring, whilst the outer face will be 8mm further out. Tyre choice might mean relieving the inner wheel arch lip if you want to run 175 tyres, but I know this does vary from car to car. I've e-mailed ref pricing!. ATB Kim |

Kim, Just to confirm what David says; My 2 UK made Minators weigh in at 5.6 kgs each, 2 newer reputedly "Chinese" made Minators weigh in at 5.5 kgs each, I imagine these are the ones you might be supplying. Std late steel rostyles 6.7 kgs each, early rostyles 7.1 kgs each. If your man wants save good weight get hold of some ally front hubs, the ones I have here are .82kgs each (bare) ....anyone know the weight of a bare std one ? I like to weigh most larger parts that I get in my hands, the list is growing. The most surprising so far was the weight of a bare bodyshell.....anybody care to guess ?? Ian |

130kg? |

200 |
Onno Könemann |
Dave/Onno I hope those are guesses for the weight of a bodyshell and not the weight of steel front hubs ! The bodyshell weighed in at 146 kgs. The shell is a good condition 1970 original BMC ex California SWA shell, currently in my garage waiting attention.....but a new addition to the family is currently getting most of the attention ! Ian, New addition to the family??Are we talking sleepless nights/nappies, or a new 4 wheeled addition to the stable??. I know you said you wanted a special 50th Birthday present.... |
