MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Midget Whhel Bearings
Hi, Anyone out there know the part numbers for from roller bearing for the midget. Or the OE number for the more commom ball race bearings. Rather that the rubbish that's out there. Thanks |

just ignore him. The Original part numbers were 3MJT17 (outer) 34LJT25 (inner) Those are the numbers printed on the bearings themselves by the bearing maker. A different prefix for these also exists, (11/MJT17, and 39/LJT25) but that difference only denotes the cage is made of resin rather than metal. Other than the cost to manufacture, both are fully equivalent. The BMC/BL part numbers were 2A4148 (outer) 2A4299 (inner) These are face adjusted bearings, 20 degree angular contact ball bearings, and the inner had an R2 on the inside edge of its race to clear the fillet at the base of the spindle. hope this helps, Norm |

Peter: there is a love of "front wheel bearing" threads on this site. Some members find this really exciting while others, perhaps not wanting to understand the delights of the engineering details, tend to be less tolerant. There is a current thread on wheel bearings. The terms "short" or "succinct" or even (some would say) "interesting" don't apply to that thread, or its predecessor, or the one before that, or the.... well you get the drift. But before you go out shopping for your bearings you might find it helpfull to have a quick look - it's still in the Top 10 of technical threads. Because knowing the bearing numbers is not the answer! (In all seriousness, this is a real minefield which comes down, currently, to the fact that no-one seems to offer the correctly engineered standard bearings for front wheel hubs. You refer to the "rubbish out there" and I have to say that in terms of face-adjusted and correct radius, there don't seem to be any which are not. There is a big discussion about fitting taper roller bearings rather than angular contact. The numbers Norm gave you are for angular contact. You can't buy correct ones (or so it appears) and the ones that may appear correct should be checked out before purchase.) |

Orinico Bearings (if you google on Ransome and Marles, or RHP, names of the original maker of the OE bearings, you'll get to Orinoco) sells the NOS original bearings, but they are expensive because the supply is running low and there is no one currently willing to manufacture them. The good news is that, often, the inner bearing will last the life of the car, so if you've still got yours, or can get a pair of good ones from a scrap yard, then all you need are the face adjusted NSK ones for the outside and you'll be all set. The other good news is that, the OE ones, once fitted, if done correctly, although they are expensive, they should last you forever. Norm |

hey peter this is for the 40 degree contact angular bearing... you may need a 1mm spacer The 2 numbers for the 40 degree face adjusted angular contact bearings are NSK 7303BEAT85SUN and 7205BEAT85SUN or in SKF no's 7303BECBP 7205BECBP I would cross referance to us a brass races ... these numbers are for the pediamite races....which is s type of plastic prop |

If you use a 1mm spacer and you have disks, it will push the alignment of the disk out by 1mm. You may find you can live with that but I had that problem and could not fit new pads. Also watch out where the lip seal runs. It may well be on the edge of the spacer and so may wear quickly. |

Peter, As graeme suggested. Read the thread entitled "Oh no, not......Front Hub Brgs! Wohoo!". Not the most precise description :), but you get the gist. Anyway, that thread has ALL the answers to whatever question you ask about "front wheel bearings" -- and then some. And as it's still live, and awaiting more response, it would be more useful if you replied to that thread. Just a tip. Searching the archives isn't easy at the best of times, but a more accurate description in the tittle of the thread, does help a little. Actually you didn't say that you wanted FRONT wheel bearings. But it's assumed that's what you meant. As regards the bearings out there being rubbish; --- not rubbish, just not the correct spec. Why don't you use this thread to tell us about yourself and your car. Then we can all make our usual remarks; -- Some of which you'll love, some of which you'll like, and some of which you'll loath. And, Nigel will soon tell you all about the "handbook" -- I assume you don't have one (very wise). |

Oh no, not......Front Hub Brgs! Wohoo! Named because I knew it would cause some upset if I din't temper yet another Front Bearing thread in some way! It wasn't supposed to go on for ever... and ever... and... (Actually, I do otherwise have a complaint about poorly titled threads. When you try to find them in the archive it can be a real pain. Perhaps we could try setting some sort of standard which would be more informative) |

Greetings Gents. I have just put a set of bearings from a south coast supplier. It all seems ok and the caliper is in the correct position. Or original nut and spacer. W shall see. regards Pete |

Pete, Can you PLEASE post the details of the bearings you bought, AND the supplier you bought them from, in the existing thread --- the title of which is, -- "Oh no, not......Front Hub Brgs! Wohoo!" Otherwise all this information gets lost, -- scattered about here there and everywhere, and your post will count for nothing, when people try to reference it at a later date. Cheers. |

yeah peter... just pick any of the 32 titles with "wheel bearings" in its header that have more then 300 postings and stick your info in there.... because im.sure everyone reads those on christmas eve night around the fire place hahaha prop |
