MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Mirror parts
I have a collection of parts some of which should be components for a pair of bullet mirrors. (not all - the hinges are probably MM boot hinges)
As I didn't dismantle these I don't know what bits there may be that are missing (e.g mirror glass, but maybe others) and I don't know how they should assemble. I don't know if the various chromed washers are anything to do with them. Does anyone have information - an exploded diagrame or parts list would be ideal. I have yet to decide if I would use them. I think they look good on a Frogeye, but rather suspect that they may not be much real use in practice as they would vibrate to much on the one piece bonnet. |

I've got those on my Frog (been there for ages) and they don't vibrate. The whole car may bounce around but I've never had a problem with the mirrors themselves. The dash mounted one does vibrate until I retighten the mounting studs which hold it down and are for the tonneau. |

If you can see manufacturers marks you could try the manufacturer (or who ever took them over) if they're still going. I've got a feeling I've seen some details or drawings on some website (possibly selling the mirrors) but sorry I can't remember any details. |

Mine came without mirrors and I've wondered about them. Once you've drilled the hole(s) you can't go back I guess. I've looked at the Moss mirrors but they seem quite pricey. |

My frog had boomerang mirrors on the bonnet when I first owned it. The mirror on the passenger side was not really that useful and I really only used the drivers side one but it was too far down the bonnet to be really effective. I removed the mirrors when I restored the the car in 2009 and filled in the holes. After seeing one at a show, I found the mirror that attaches to the front windscreen mount (frogeye and MK11 Sprite/Mk1 midget) really good. It avoids drilling the bonnet and gives good rearward vision. It was originally designed for the big Healey 100/4 but a modified version has been produced for the Sprite. Its a bit pricey (£40) but in my view worth it. |

I may look out the pillar mounted ones then Bob, when the time comes. I just quite like the look of the classic bullet ones. The PO of this car had sent off a bag of small parts for rechroming and the bits in the photo are what is left over. I don't know if all of the various washers are anything to do with the mirrors, or what else might be missing. I suspect I don't have enough parts saved to reconstruct them, even if I did know how it all went together! |
