MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Mirrors on quarterlights?
Could someone tell me how this mirror fixes to a quarterlight on a midget please? Thanks. |

don't if this correct but it works ok

Hiya Tim. That's how I did it originally. The pic shows what happens if you brush against the mirror. I think the mirror should attach to the frame.

Ha.... the mirror falls off or the Q/L glass breaks. Mark. |

Hi Neil Have we not been through this before? I am sure I posted you a pic of how it should be fitted to the quarter light frame? Dont worry I can post another if your stuck, no need to be told off for not searching the archives!Lol. |

Wrong link I think Rob but I know what you mean. I had forgotten that I had posted this back in January when I first broke the glass! I'm waiting to be told off for not searching the archives!!! Ha Ha. Anyway I saw your photo but couldn't see how you had actually attached it to the channel that the glass runs in. When I tried to fit it to this I couldn't get clearance for the window to run up the channel. The pic shows your fitting. I think! |

Thats mine Neil. As I remember I had to remove a small section of the rubber runner that fits inside tAhe frame to allow for clearance of the window, its still a bit tight now but better than drilling holes in wings. A long time ago I bought some wing mount bullet mirrors, they looked great but then realised how much they would get in the way when working in the engine bay, they are still sitting on my parts shelf somewhere! |

Are these the same as the ones for a B? Moss part #165-175. I was planning on putting these on my B. |

Neil, I have the same mirrors and they are currently on the quarterlights as when I tried to fit them to the frame the window would not go past the bracket. I intend to move them to the frame and although I haven't tried it yet I think the solution is to reduce the thickness of the inside of the clamp to allow the window to shut (or just not worry as the window is always down anyway). Neil, I take it you need the mirror to see what you have just overtaken? :) Steve |

Having tried a similar mirror I have, tonight on Neils car (chrome quarter lights) there seems to be a problem as the window would not wind up. On my stainless steel quarter light there was clearance and wound up O.K. (still fell off due to rubbish manufacture and soft allen screws ! - cannot remember where I bought it from) So seems a difference with chrme and s/steel quarter lights tolerances. R. |

I think the difference in q/lights is that the chrome frame is slightly curved, whereas the S/S version is flat. I have had a couple of mirrors mounted onto the frame on different Midgets. One fitted much better than the other. The monting brackets were much thinner than the one above. |
