MG Midget and Sprite Technical - MkII Midget Hood fitting
Ok,I need to get a midget MkII hood. I have the original frame which is a two piece affair. My understanding is that I will need to fix a header rail to the hood so that it will connect to the screen. My screen has the two fittings that the header rail clips fit to. I have an old MkIII hood which is beyond repair and this is fitted to a MkIII frame. If I remove the header rail from the MkIII, am I correct in saying that this is exactly the same as I will need for a MkII hood? Presumably new header rail clips are available if required? |

yes the part # is the same; you can check this yourself you know - Moss catalogue has been online for years http://www.moss-europe.co.uk/ |

David, Thank you for that. I have been buying from Moss for 30 years plus. Could you tell me where part 11a is shown in the Moss On line catalogue under the Hoods section? |

here's your late one - click on the '37' for the pic. http://tinyurl.com/yzxr8da and here is the listing for the early one http://tinyurl.com/yhee57j = same part number. You know what it looks like already ! *thinks* - did you mean to ask 'Moss say they are the same but I don't believe them so can anyone confirm please?' |
David Smith |
I can't confirm whether there are any major differences between Mk2 and Mk3 header rails - other than the Mk2 not needing the tapped holes for the folding frame - but I can't see any reason why a Mk3 header can't be used for a Mk2 hood, as the windscreen frame is basically the same. |

The factory parts book does not list the header rail as a separate part. The hood is listed "with header rail, black". I don't have both to compare. |

Thanks all. My Midget is a GAN 3. I see that the part number in the Moss catalogue is the same for both rails ie AHA9052. Therefore I will use the one I have from the MkIII. Dave. You've hit the nail on the head. |

as a mk II owner i can confirm they are both exactly the same. but doe you have the metal strip to hook behind the hooks on the back? this is usualy not included in the new hood. mkII hoods slightly harder to get up but the car looks so mutch better with the top down and up! |

Neil. Strange though it may seem, (since I've never owned a Mk2) I have a Mk2 Double Duck hood in the shed. Last time I looked it was unmarked and has the header rail already fitted. If it might be of interest I could trundle down to the shed to find it and get a photo. Rob, nr Cardiff. |

Hi Rob, Please please please trundle down to the shed. I can be contacted on pendinedash at hotmail dot co dot uk Thanks, Neil |

Hi Rob, if neil isn't interested in it, then I may well be as my hood has a repaired tear in it which lets the car down really, regards, john |
