At first glance I thought to myself how can you tell then I noticed the location of the oil filter. Was this the give away just for future reference? and how do you tell the difference against an ITAL engine? Shaun |

That looks to be the same as the engine in my frog, which I was told was an A+. However as I get back into A series engines I definitely get the impression that this isn't true. Can anybody give a list of the differences between the Marina engine and the Ital A+ engine? I have googled like a mad thing but cannot get a definitive answer. |

I think that the A+ block has quite a few strengthening ribs on the outside of the casting, also the main give away is the distributor fixing, on the a series its a clamp, and on the a+ its a fiddly fork/2 fingered affair that hold the dizzy in place. Well thats my experience of identifying them at least. John |

Mine has the later dizzie fitting, no tappet chests but it has a bypass hose. I'm lost ! |

I told the seller it was a Marina engine and he replied 'to my knowledge it is from a 67 MG midget' so he either knew or is plain stubborn! It was the dynamo bracket that caught me eye more than anything in this photo that clearly identified it as a Marina rather than Ital engine. There is a popular tuning book out later this year that identifies the differences between all the in-line A-series blocks, rods the Marina & Ital engines. wwww.veloce.co.uk search Sprite Midget |

Mark, Daniel, he knew on Monday it was Marina not Spridget 'cos that's when I messaged him! I explained the differences but he seems content to keep up the deception.... |
