MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Morris Minor Traveller Diff
Anybody got any idea if a Moggy 1000 Traveller diff will fit a midget axle casing and if so what ratio might it be? Thanks, Neil |
Neil (K series) |
Certainly will fit a Midget axle but what ratio I am not sure? Probably be 4.1/4.3? I would expect |

it will almost certainly be a 4.2 ratio (9:38). 4.1 and 4.3 sound like Ford ratios? |

If it's a 1098, it ought to be a 4.2 If it's a 948, it ought to be a 4.5 ...but it could have been swapped sometime in the last 30-40 years. |

Could provide useful acceleration for a 1.8 k series engine then? |
Neil (K series) |
Neil, you need to run the numbers on this otherwise you'll find 1st is so low you can't really use it and you'll never be able to explore the extra power of the K-series at top speed as you'll be at the rev limit before the top speed a good K will pull in a Spridget.

Hey thanks. I've got the book. I'll get it out tonight to have a look. The other diff I have is a 3.7 |
Neil (K series) |
Mog diffs went as far as 5.35:1, IIRC Plenty of 4.22s, lots of 4.5s and some longer (shorter?) ones on Post Office vans etc. I have a 5.3 in the Frogeye axle I put into my MGP-type. Also, check to see that it has a drain plug in it if your axle doesn't. Can't remember which combo will give you no filler. Suspect late diff and early axle casing. Anyone? |
