MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Morris Oils?
Hi Anyone tried Morris Lubricants in Shrewsbury for either their 20/50 mineral multigrade or their 15//50 motorsport oil? http://www.morrislubricants.co.uk/scripts/prodList.asp?idCategory=114 I am wondering if the oil and online sales are good? As I can no longer easily get Castrol 20/50 mineral mulitigrade (the old GTX). Is it worth lugging some back on the train 250 miles home tomorrow? Cheers Mike |

Our N.W. branch of MASC won a best club stand award at a car show and the prize was 10 litres of Morris's 20/50 for each member. As it was free, I used it. I can report that it is excellent. I would place it on a level with Penrite and Millers. It maintains its pressure and other members who used it mentioned that they also got marginally better consumption figures than their previous oils. So, yes, all in all a good option. I cannot comment on the 15/50 grade oil. Bernie. |

Hi Bernie That's great, thanks Mike |

If you still want castrol Opie oils will supply. its £26.00 plus £5.00 postage for 5 litres. Castrol used to supply direct but appear to have stopped this now. |

A little feel good story. Before I retired I worked in sales for a international engine manufacturer I approached a local haulier with a good size fleet hoping to get him to buy our oil he declined. The reason being that when he was starting out many years ago " Morris Lubricants " were the only company to supply him goods up front. Plus I hear that the quality is very good. |

Halfords Clasic 20w50 is on offer until Monday (20% off) I don't know if it's any good, but there is a picture of a Sprite on the can!!! http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_166289_langId_-1_categoryId_165581 |

I used Halfords Classic 20w/50 (or Castrol XL20w/50 which you can still get) for many miles and oil changes on my present midget and both were fine |

Thanks all. I will try my local oil supplier (Scotwest Oils - a Morris stockist apparently) to see if I can get some Morris 20/50 (probably 20 litre drum) if not it's Halfords again. I did like the feel good story above about faith in a small company, from the suppliers to a new company (small oil company to a small business, and then loyalty to the relatively small manufacturer and their product). Explains why I want to support independent companies that have good products and service. I do worry that choice, size, diversity and locality of companies and products is shrinking - only a few remote corporations will be left plus a few independents operating in the virtual world. Even in the MG, Austin Healey, BMC and Triumph parts world, anyone remember when Moss did not exist? Just a number of separate companies (e.g. the Triumph place in West London) as well as other companies that have disappeared outside the future Moss empire such as Spridgebits, the original Hounslow based Motobuild, or Chris Montague carburettors? And still Rover dealers and Lucas shops to get some bits too. Some of this 20 years ago, some more recent. Nostalgia - not as good as it used to be eh? Cheers Mike |
