MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Moving
Greetings, I've finally decided to pass the midget on to a new generation. My grandson graduates in two weeks and is taking possession of the car. I have a couple of questions: He lives in San Luis Obispo, CA and I live in Phoenix, AZ. Does anyone have a recommendation for a transportation company? Also, would anyone know of a car club in the area and/or a mechanic? He's totally new to the MG thing. Oh, I'm still keeping my BGT, Cheers, Dennis |

Dennis, You got your papers? LOL. Sorry that was bad.. we wont boycout you. Id say Les is the one to talk to, he lives in phoenix, and Im sure he would have some insight, unfortantly I dont have his website avialable currently. You might try a used car lot, they have to transport cars back and forth to auction. Make sure your grandson becomes a active member here on the BBS. Prop... I do feel for AZ., states rights all the way |

LOL - first of all - KEEP the midget and give him the BGT ;)!!! Seriously, it would be a cool trip to drive if the car is up to it as a post-graduation adventure. After all, if a Midget can go pretty much around the world - it can go from Phoenix to CA! Heck - he'll even have nice weather - which most of us can only dream of ...! |

Dennis, Get your Grandson to fly over to Phoenix and then the two of you make the overland road trip back to CA in he Midget. Share the driving so you get a farewell adventure in your car and grandson gets to learn about it first-hand from you. He will cherish the car more, and never forget the experience with his grandad. I thought about letting him drive it back and I'm very confident the car is up for it. But, between Phoenix and LA there's a lot of miles of open desert. I still may let him drive it, but that would have to be a drive through the night affair. So far I have a transport quote of $475. If I look at paying for flights, gas, food, etc., I think it would be the best decision. I really would like to hear from some of the CA members on some contacts for him. Prop, He's very excited about getting the car. I agree, it's a perfect CA driver and he's going to have a ball with it! I will be talking to Les as well. I am going to miss her. (Photo attached) |

OMG dennis, that is a really nice ride, is the GS grad from high school or collage... If its high school, jez I dont know, Id wait a few more years...maybe by a local midget that needs some basic work so he will learn to appricate such a great car...thats hard to do at 18 when its given to them. then give it to him when he grads from collage the $475 quote I think is a fair price, But I dont live in that area. just a fast google shearch shows the distance at 575 miles... just under a dollar a mile for a whole car I just had a rear axle assembly delivered by professional truck driver from NC to mid Missouri around 900 miles and it was around $175 Prop |

He is graduating from HS, but he's a good kid. He'll be going to college in the fall and it will just make it that much better for him having that car. I plan on sitting him down and making him watch my MG history video and spending time showing him the car. Also, he knows up-front, if he ever decides he doesn't want it, the car comes back to Phoenix. Regards,Dennis |

do the drive that is a once in a lifetime experiance certainly with night drive's Nothing like top down in the dark motoring! |
Onno Könemann |
Do the drive with him. OK, so it may work out a few dollars more than paying someone else to transport it but treat it as a holiday with your grandson and the little bit extra will be well worth it. And far better than trusting it to the careless handling by others unknown who will see it as just another bit of freight! And the distance is nothing - I was thinking it would be much more. Its only 10 hours drive which would split nicely into two evenings on the road with a day rest stop between. You won't regret it! Guy |

Guy and Onno, you're right of course. It is a one time opportunity and I'll look into that option closer. Cheers |

Well - all we can do now is to say - have a fantastic and wonderful trip :) |

I really have to agree with the others, make it a road trip with your grandson, I cant think of a better way to start a life time of memories then the 1st one being a road trip with grand pop, Not to mention the extra value the car will have to him for having that experiance long after your dust in the wind. Im pretty sure thats whats known as a legacy. Prop |
