MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Mumford link / RTL problems

I'm fabrictating my onw RTL from info i've gleaned off the net(mainly Caterham 7/ locust sites), however i tried a trial fit tonight & have found that the handbrake rod (it's now a s/s tube after a previous modification) fouls the new RTL linkage. I'm thinking of running the handbrake rod through the centre of the RTL, but not sure if this is a good idea.
Has anyone whose installed a proper one got any photos they mind sharing, you can do it off thread if you want.
thanks
Brad

you could try a swap to the 1500 handbrake bits, it provides a bit more flexibility of location ISTR.
David Smith

have a frontline RTL and rubs a little on the drivers side but without any problems

Alex,

my ali tanks a little different to yours & i previously changed the long hand brake rod to a stainless tube with adjustable ends. Also i think my version is a bit chunkier, which is why i was thinking of running the rod through the centre of the RTL.
I'll have another look tonight with your photo as a reference, i've got a bathroom to plaster today firtst though.
Thanks

Same experience as Alex.

Would post a pic, but the underneath of my car is a little scruffy compared with Alex's...

Just had a session in the garage, the problem yesterday was i was trying to mount her vertically, if one comes in at a shallow angle from behind, it all seems to slip into place a lot easier.

Now I understand why my house will finish way before yours, you gotta spend more time in the house.

However I would'nt mind a set of engineering drawings or details on all the mods you have made......

Got to ask how is the triumph?

Hi Shaun,
the Truimph is being a t**t. Amongst other things i'm having problems finding a glue to stick the interior back in which doesn't react with cellulose, tried 4 different aerosol makes so far.
Also had a heap of problems with getting it started for the first time in, what 15 years, new battery,
two new starter solenoids, new fuel pump, new ignition switch, new coil, carbs flooding carbs dry (repeat a dozen times), now the water pumps leaking & the sumps got a leak which is an engine out job, so not having a happy Triumph experiance at the mo.

I think you may be right about the house, mines like the Sprite an ongoing & endless project.

Your have to pop around sometime & i'll fix your brakes for you :-) draining the fluid should do the trick

Found this evening that my nuts were fouling her chassis preventing a full stroke.... on the linkage travel, so i'm going to have to have them off! Vice-Grip pliers will be my tool of choice.
Luckily i'm undersize in that department (not by design) & can afford to go to tapped holes?!

Brad, you really must wear clothes in the garage!!!!! or perhaps get out once in a while ;-)
