MG Midget and Sprite Technical - MX5 seat fitting
Having got the new belts fitted its time to fit the MX5 Seats. I've researched this on line and the simplest way seems to be flatten the front and rear mounting points, cut off the spiky thing and drill new holes as required. Any advice on this please. |

When I put MGF seats in a midget I welded a 2mm thick strip across the rear and a 1" square section tube across the front runners. I spaced them apart the same as distance between front and rear holes in the floor. Then carefully measure and drill holes in the rear strip and front tube so I could retain the standard fixing points in the floor. Rob |

Seats fitted at last.
I have to say that there was a lot of what Nigel would call, farting about. Apart from bending the MX5 seat rails flat positioning them needed quite a bit of thought, if you place the front holes too far forward, the cross member prevents the seat from sliding forwards enough to expose the rear bolt holes so the best bet is to get an approximate position and then drill the back holes first. First impressions after a short blast this afternoon. Comfort definitely improved as is the side support. I get the feeling that they will be comfortable on a long run. I've heard it said that the car goes around corners quicker with new seats. Yep, it does! Haven't quite got the inertia reel belts right yet, you have to scrabble around over your shoulder to find the buckle. Only other downside at the moment is that they seem to put me a bit closer to the steering wheel. Not quite sure what to do about that. Any ideas? |
