MG Midget and Sprite Technical - New brake calipers
Dear midget and Sprite drivers, I would need either my old front brake calipers overhauled or new ones as these are quite reasonable available. I found a complete set of calipers, discs, pads and so on for 135 pounds at Sussex classic cars. I would guess that all calipers available come from the same production line. Any suggestions or recommendations? Thank you and best regards Thomas |

I have noticed that the new calipers you can buy now are "bulkier" than the originals. I noticed this when I converted my Mk2 Sprite to discs (about 18 months ago) when offering up the new calipers to the new back plates they would not sit in the cut out in the back plate. Rob |

HI ROB Ok, I run the car without the backplates. Are you running wire wheels? Did you cut out the backplates? Thank you Thomas |

Hi Thomas, I run steel wheels (well actually alloy) and I had to bend (to enlarge) the opening in the back plate to fit the caliper. Rob |

I would have the old calipers rebuilt only with stainless steel pistons rather than ordinary steel. It will be more expensive but they won't rust in the caliper and stick through lack of use. |

C & C special parts produce them. Have a look at theyr site https://ccparts.nl/en/ I could get them with chromed, stainless and brass pistons. Call them. They give you all the info you need and they can overcome the tax and border problems. They also overhauled my old calipers 12 years ago. They looked new and still work well. It is my impression that they produce the bulk of the quality calipers and brake cylinders in the world. Flip |

Thomas Also worth trying the following companies for good quality new brake calipers as well as some of these rebuild calipers: https://www.powertrackbrakes.co.uk/ http://www.coastings.co.uk/ https://www.pastparts.co.uk/ Thanks Mike |
