MG Midget and Sprite Technical - New coil
My coil has packed up so it is time for a new one. It is for a 1979 1500 midget with electronic ignition. Is it worth upgrading to a lucas sports coil. I have been told I can fit one but it isn't a ballast coil. Is this true I can still fit it? Will I notice the diference with a sports coil or should I stick with just a new basic coil. Many thanks |

The answer is that your coil should be a ballasted coil and will need to be replaced with the same although you could modify the wiring to suit non ballasted. You will not notice a difference if you fitted a sports coil in fact a ballasted system correctly wired and fitted ought to be better for cold starting than a non ballasted sports coil. So in my humble opinion I think you should simply replace with like for like. |
