MG Midget and Sprite Technical - New Dizzy and optical

Hi Just bought midget and going through it checking most things. I am in the process of fitting a new starter, while doing this i had to remove the dizzy, i notice it is hooked up to a luminition kit but one of the wires to the optical sensor must have been catching the blade and worn away hence white insulaton tape. my question is where can i get a new optical sensor and how do i identify which one i have? also i need to change the dizzy as it does not seem to advance and also the rotor arm is broken the one on there at the moment its a 43d with vac advance, i have a webber carb and reading various threads and forums i am confused if i need one or not and should i replace the dizzy with a 43d non vacuum adv or a 23d. a bit confused really. a few specs listed below

1969 midget
bored to 1360 (not by me)
weber carb fitted

please help as i want to get it running while there is a little bit of summer left please see picture of inside of dizzy

I'd suggest you think about getting a new fully electronic 123 Tune dissy (programable) from Peter Burgess - http://www.mgcars.org.uk/peterburgess/123.html

I was talking about getting those wires fitted correctly the other day and the fact it's basicaly just one tiny tie-wrap down holding them inside

intermitent problems a lot of the time are from a nip on one of the wires somewhere that can't be seen on the wire, whether inside or out

Don't even bother replacing the optical sensor as they are seriously expensive.

If it works, just live with it or repair as best you can.

Intermittent problems on Lumenition are normally down to faulty plug/socket. Easy to replace with similar Molex type or alternative.

Dave, G is also getting a new dissy hence the 123 tune from Peter recommendation I made

IIRC small nicks can be protected by putting super glue over but I might be wrong

not wrong about - some - intermitent faults being from nicked wires tho'

the sentence went astray with >>a lot of times<< and lot many have been better as some

I can't right or do maffs

Hi

thanks for all your posts it has been helpful, a couple of questions, the 123 dizzy looks good but i dont think the wife will let me spend that much yet. so if i decide to get a standard dizzy (i think i can mend the optical wire do i get one with a vac advance if so where do i put the vac pipe and if not do i go for the original 43d type or a 23d does it matter that it has been bored to 1360?

thanks Gary
