MG Midget and Sprite Technical - New HT leads for 1500
I am treating the mg to some new HT leads I have had mine on for about 5years so time for a change. Has anyone got the accuspark leads on theres or what have you got on yours? |

Neil, these leads are made by a specialist company that make leads for others to put their names on and they've been tested and proven to slightly increase power by a well known and respected independent MG tuner and engine builder on his rolling road I've got a sett on my car and they're very good and well made http://www.performanceleads.co.uk/ |

Well I have just got the accuspark leads but on fitting them I have found on spark plug 1 the lead is touching the alternator. Will this be a problem? |
Neil Allen |
always best if they're not touching anything including each other so use combs to tidy them up and keep them apart from each other and not touching other items they don't sound very tailored to suit the car application but I've seen some very overlong leads on some cars, suppliers of these leads must cut costs by applying a one-size fits attitude or ordering only certain sizes from their manufacturing supplier |

another thought - *depending* on their construction you could carefully remove one end connector on the lead and cut the lead shorter and reconnect the end connector |

Would HT leads deteriorate in 5 years? Surprised at that. |

depends on their use I had a set that became brittle and set shaped in 18 months of use but not on a midget, many items can still be used when they are well beyond their optimum for a very long time, sometimes it doesn't make much odds other times it very much does, sometimes it's a reasonable idea to carry on using something until it falls apart other times it isn't |

Yes, I have come across those ones with a hard shiny outer skin - they do seem to go brittle. The ones I am using are a very pliable soft rubber and seem fine. They have been on since I rebuilt the engine in the mid 1990s. I do carry a spare set tucked down inside the rear wing, made up to a spare dizzy cap. But they have been there for the same length of time so have probably deteriorated more than the ones in use! |

no these were the thin silicone style same as sold by some MG suppliers and it was probably less than 18 months use, they were just in a fibreglass (I did put FB but couldn't remember if that was right) car with CI manifolds close by that meant there was a fair bit of heat about personally I'd bin your spare set and your current set, throw all my eggs in one basket and fit and forget a new performanceleads set - but I'm young and reckless |
