MG Midget and Sprite Technical - NEW STAGE 2 OR 3 CYLINDER HEAD

Some advice please. My 73 RWA 1275cc midget is in good order and very reliable, but I would like to improve the acceleration a little. My engine is standard apart from KN filters, electronic ignition, LCB with Fletcher DTM silencer. I am thinking a new exchange stage 2 or 3
head would be right move. Which supplier is recomended
I am looking for more power in normal rev band ,not raising the revs too much. Would a stage 2 or 3 be best. I would keep the 1.25 SUs. Would a new distributor be necessary? Who is the best supplier? As I live in Spain I would need the new head shipped out and the old one sent back OR is it better to send my original head away for reworking?, again, who to? Many thanks for your help. Bryan

With a standard 1275 cam and carburettors, a Stage 2 head that uses the standard valve sizes will work well. To get the best from a Stage 3 head, you will need to change the cam for something like a '266' or '276', and fit either 2 x 1.5" SU's or 1 x 1.75" HIF SU.

I have used Peter Burgess near Derby for both A-Series and B-Series engines, and would recommend him very highly indeed. He will usually do an exchange, or rework your existing head, so long as it has no problems.

Peter Burguss... X4

he is the head man for sure... he also sells the 123 dissy so if you buy from him, your odds of getting it set up to top notch is very high...and he has a rolling road if you fancy a vaction to derby

A note... there in no real defination of a stage 1,2,3 ...so its important to talk to peter or some one like him to get a real understanding of what you want

A last note... instead of a engine rebuild with a new cam ...esp.if the engine.is in good nick...consider "high lift ratio rockers 1:1.5" ...this will push the valves down further and get more yummie goodness for alot better performance..its a pure bolt on plug and play add on part...and easy/ fast to do...as in a saterday afternoon...but agian, only if the engine is in good shape

But ... if money is not a consern...there is always the moss super charger...that will leave a skid mark on both the street and your undershorts

Hope that helps

Btw.. the high lift roller rockers would be in addition to a nice performance head...other wise it probably wouldnt be worth the investment....if.the head can breath, its makes a big differance in performance and fuel economy

You cant go wrong with over Sized valves, porting the valve guild lumps (big huge improvement) and hardened seats for the exhaust valves, and some fresh valve springs....that can give you some zip to the seat of your pants
