MG Midget and Sprite Technical - No fuel from tank
I've just replaced the fuel tank which I purchased from Welsh MG and find that there is no fuel being picked up by either fuel pump. The position of the hole for the pipe to the pumps is a little bit higher than my old tank and there is a baffle about 30mm in from the tank outlet which is not on my old tank.
Has anyone experienced the same problem or knowws what the fix is. I've put 2 gallons of fuel in and the gauge shows 1/4 full on the old tank I could run in nearly dry and woud still pick fuel up.Everything is the same as before expect for the fuel tank, same petrol cap and even tried without the cap on. |

Peter, I have heard of a protective coating being used on tanks. It's a liquid product added and swilled around inside the tank. Supposed to be good except if used on a tank with a filter on the pick up pipe, when it can clogg that. Try an airline on the outlet to check the pipe and filter inside the tank is clear. |

Thanks Guy, I'll try that I've just topped up to half full and still no joy. Looks like another drain nd tank out. But looking at this its just a hole in the tank with no pick up pipe or filter just this baffle that quite high up in the tank thats about 30mm from outlet. |

With that much fuel in it, just try undoing/pulling off the hose from the tank outlet. Should run out from gravity. If not, as Guy says, it's blocked for some reason. Poke a wire into the outlet. |

Some tanks had a baffle to prevent fuel from surging from side to side, but it wouldn't be full height, not extended right down to the bottom - there would be gaps to allow fuel to flow through. Poked with a wire may help, but only if the outlet pipe is straight in. Not if there is a bend or a filter. Which is why I suggested using an airline, if you have one, though a foot pump might also work. Wire is a good easy first try though. Do the simplest things first! |

Hi Guy If I poke a small screwdriver into the out let hole there is no pipe for pickup the screwdriver just hits this baffle. |

It must be missing the pickup pipe inside the tank. It must be a faulty product. |
