MG Midget and Sprite Technical - No start condition.
I am sharing because I have been chasing my tail, just happy to share my mistakes, I hope someone else can learn from me!
1974 MG midget, motor hasn't run since 2014, pulled engine for respray and re-seal......motor back in with new battery, no start......fast clicks, then sparks....read all of the archives and had a coffee. Re-isolated the power lug on starter, bench tested using the cars solenoid via jumpers...all good. Reinstalled starter, just got the solenoid click, a single click and then nothing! Not knowing the age of the solenoid, I picked up a ford v-8 solenoid and I got my single click back (now I have a spare) $20.00 Pulled starter, again, gear was stuck......amazing what a little graphite will do!! Re-installed no luck. Went to check connection to starter and the spade lug broke off. I guess the simplest part was the failure! Let it be known to rule out EVERYTHING! Car turns over has oil pressure, will try and start after dinner. Phew! I wonder how the coil is???? Steve |

And if you are wondering......... after 4 years of sleep, my 74 is alive again! After uncrossing the HT leads, she runs smooth. A little bit of sputter on start-up, temporary choke "string" fitted helps. Will do a tune when the daytime temp comes down. |

Another one back on the road! Good work. Now start to enjoy the drive. |
