MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Number Plate light / Petrol filler

Guys,

Im trying to get a really smooth back end on my midget and plan to de-bumper. I am unsire about a couple of bits and would appreciate any ideas you have :-

1. I would like to use adhesive number plate but am unsure of how to light, would like the most discreet lights possible so they do not break up the look of the back

2. Petrol filler cap - have 2 ideas one is to close hole and have filler inside boot or other to fit aero type filler that is flat against body - would appreciate ideas from anyone that has tried either of these

As always many thanks for the support with this

What is your plan for under the lights?

if you are building segments and respraying then you might consider my solution:

The numberplate is held in one of the Halfords plastic/ fake chrome plate holders which rivet onto the curve and allow you to fit a street legal plate.

The lamps I used were

and to get these to the right hight I built up filler which I shaped with a wire brush in a drill to make smooth plinths which when painted look seemless with the panel

This is what I'm working on now.

The number plate is recessed into the back end and I have a row of LEDs that will illuminate the plate. They protrude slightly through holes drilled in the top of the box that I've welded in.

This picture doesn't show my filler cap very clearly, but it's up in front of the boot lid on the right hand side (flush aero type). The car's a '66, so there's more flat metal there than on the later cars with the folding hood frame so not sure whether that exact placement would work.

what aout some small well placed LEDS

I used the later tag mount from a 1500 with the built in lights, but Phil's idea is very neat. As for the filler, I also routed mine up to the rear deck just behind the cockpit surround but used an Aston style filler in that location. A couple of exhaust 90 degree bends the same diameter as the filler pipe and some fuel filler hose to make the connections was all it took inside the boot.

Just curious,

How serious is having a lic plate light in the UK, we are supposed to have them here, But my truck lic plate light hasnt worked in about 15 years, and never has been an issue.

If you can get away with it, Id leave it off

Phil burke,

I hate to say it But Paul was vary sick about a year ago, and had a couple his friends help him to finish assembling his kits for his last remaining orders, i certianly hope he pulled a rabbit out of his hat, But beating cancer is tough

gotta have number plate lights in the UK as well, won't pass the MOT without one on the back (or it shouldn't)

heres my version:

not exactly flush but lit from underneath with a chavtastic LED sidelight on a bit of metal
