MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Obvious MOT checks
Hi there, Booked in for MOT on Friday to try & get the midget taxed & tested before I'm away in order to give a few weeks of 'niggle ironing' before Midget50. I'm running out of time and I still have to spray the whole back end. In between letting coats dry I'm trying to sort out all the other small bits & pieces for the MOT. I don't mind too much if it fails but I don't want it to fail on something embarassingly obvious as I have built up a good relationship with the tester and so don't want to take the wee-wee by submitting something with silly fails. The car has been off the road almost since the last MOT so basics like excesive bearing play and tyre tread depth shouldn't have changed. So far my list of obvious stuff to check is: lights horn washer bottle & jets no sharp edges brakes (kinda hard with no tax!) seatbelts glass springs/shockers exhaust So what else have I forgotten?! Thanks! -Craig P.S. Guy - your ratchet strap trick for the windscreen worked a treat - whole job took an hour tops! I owe you a pint!! |

wheel bearings brake hoses and lines steering seat mountings rear number plate illuminated and not damaged there are elements to all listed too, as an example tyre tread is just one aspect of checking the tyres, bit like when you lift the bonnet how much oil is in the engine is not the most vital check cross test the lights with an attractive assistant helping, put indicators on whilst braking and reversing lights are on ect. check none of the bulbs are darkened hope these help too http://www.motester.co.uk/CarOwnersGuidetoTheMOT/WhatIsTested/HowToPrepareYourCarfortheMOT.aspx http://www.motester.co.uk/Home/MOTChecklist.aspx Dave pipped me to posting so duplicates grease front suspension headlight aim |

plenty of water (mix) in your windscreen wash bottle have spare bulbs and fuses just in case take car in clean inside and out, gives a good impression - and if you get the chance also wipe off as much oil underneath as you can (looking at owners Handbook service list brings):- all tyres at correct pressure (also helps with headlight aim) take up slack on handbrake, adjust rear brakes wiper blades mirrors (not cracked or crazed) wheel nuts torqued |
