MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Oil Burning

Hi Guys
1/ midget 1293cc when engine is hot I get oil fumes blowing out of the centre exhaust (3 branch manifold) there is oil residue coming out and in the centre exhaust port there is oily gunge. The engine does not lose and power. the head is standard except for opened up ports to match inlet and exhaust manifolds. suggestions please.
2/ Pre ignition same engine with 13/4"Su on manifold inlet.Aldon igniter and 544 cam initally timing set to 21degrees base at 1200rpm. I've retarded gradually to 14degrees but still there also when engine is hot it won't turn over. as if battery flat or too advanced Leave for a few seconds and fires up.I have a small gel battery on the car?

You may have oil leaking down the valve guides.

21 degrees at 1200 sounds excessive; did you measure with vac connected (wrong) or disconnected (right way).

I'd set to 7 deg BTDC static, and experiment from there. Does the head have higher CR than standard? Is so, you may need remapped dissy to give slower rate of advance.

you might even try 28 to 30 degrees At 4500 rpms, there are several here that are big advocates of that procedure
