MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Oil leak past scrol seal on first motion shaft
I have just replaced the clutch in my 1975 MG midget. Also have replaced the first motion shaft scroll seal. Still have oil leak. Can I use the lip oil seal and housing on this trans? |

Unfortunately, the lip seal arrangement has a different first motion shaft and different bell housing to accommodate the seal. All the components are interchangeable though, if you can find them! Malc. |

A 1975 Midget could be a 1275 with a ribcase box or a rubber bumper 1500 with the Triumph box - which is it? |

I assumed it was 1500 FYI. |

If it's a 1275 ribcase the front g/box cover can be swopped for an updated cover with lip seal or your cover can be machined for one. I considered it when I rebuilt my ribcase but it's quite pricey (£85 at Moss). Also I believe they have a tendency to leak oil if the car is parked with the front lower than the back. Bill |
