MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Oil pressure gauge line joint
I'm tracking down an increase in the leaked oil in my '71 midget. Never questioned it before, but I wonder why I have this union in the line from the engine to the oil pressure gauge. I wonder if someone had to shorten the oil pressure hose and felt this was easier than replacing the hose. I don't think I have a leak here, but the flare nut that connects to the engine fitting is tired, and I'll likely replace it. Does anyone else have an arrangement like this? Thank you. |

Mark, I think you're right, someone did something they shouldn't have. On mine the bit that comes out of the hose is a bit longer and goes right to the engine fitting. Also, the hose part is a lot farther away from the heater assembly. It ends about the middle of that large copper tube. I'd check under the dash to see what the tube from the gauge is like. See if there is anything other than a straight tube. If it's not correct you should be able to get the proper tube from the usual suspects. |

Thank you, Martin. I'll do that and probably replace the whole tube. |
