MG Midget and Sprite Technical - oil pressure release valve and spring

1971 midget 1275. After putting rings in my engine the oil pressure is pretty high. When first cranked it runs at 80psi and after warming up at idle about 50psi. Anyway that seems high and I know as the rings set in it will decrease but a friend mentioned I may want to look at changing the pressure release valve and spring to a set that could lower the pressure. I only see one part number for each at MOSS.
So is this something I should worry about and if so does anyone know where a alternate parts for the pressure release valve and spring could be bought.

Thanks
Ken Bargeron

nice oil pressure Ken

I wish mine was that high

mine starts at 60/70 then drops to 40ish then 30ish after a run

I would not worry if I had your pressure
Bill

I believe that rather than changing the spring, you could put a washer (or more) between the oil Preasure cap and the block, therefore lessening the preasure on the spring.
Others may correct me if I have that wrong.
Some of the Mini spares people sell an adjustable oil pressure relife valve and Alan Anstead has built a home made version (which will be featured in an article in the upcoming November Mascot).

two things; 1st, I don't see any way that changing the rings can affect oil pressure
2nd, the pressures you quote are entirely normal and are IIRC within the limts quoted by the factory documentation.

Look at the adjustable one offered by MiniSpares.

The spring will do absolutely nothing for the idle oil pressure - it is governed by internal clearances.
