MG Midget and Sprite Technical - O.K. Got my K&N air filter
Seems to be pretty much obvious as far as installation-2 bolts, 2 spacers, gasket, but what is the small plastic elbow pipe/nut? One end fits the nut the other appears to take a hose. Is this something that's going to stare me in the face obvious when I take off the old box, or am I asking a decent question? Weather's turning now and the car will be garaged for the season fairly soon I think so I'm not going to install the K&N 'till the spring. Mike T |

Are you putting this on a Weber housing? I think that elbow is to go through the weber filter housing for whatever venting you may have rigged up. |
J Van Dyke |
That's most likely the adaptor for the crankcase breather hose (coming off the valve cover). |

It's on my Zenith (couldn't wait :) Fits good but hits the wheel well? Just a small adjustment with a wood block and hammer? I figured the elbow may have been for a Weber as I saw no need for it in this application. Thanks guys. Mike T |

Mike, i had the same problem on my 1500 with twin SU's. Solved it by swapping for one with lower backplatehole. Enough bonnetclearance left so no problem. |
Arie de Best |
You know Arie I wondered why it doesn't just come with the attachment point 1/2" off center for the 1500? Where do I get a backplate for it? Thanks Mike T |
Mike Taylor |
Mike, try your K&N dealer or MG shop. I bought my K&N at my mg-parts supplier here in Holland where i got the first(wrong like yours) K&N set too. |
Arie de Best |
Called K&N. They said the part is for a triumph not an MG. They also said they no longer manufacture back plates with the offset opening, so back it goes. Mike T |

Actually mike... those are for the 1275...HS2 carbs...Most likely your running SU HS4s on your 1500 like in the UK So you want the ones made for an MGB that has HS4 carbs. The differance is the back plate hole is in the middle instaed of at the bottom, and The2 mounting holes are furthure spaced apart to fit the HS4s screw holes which dosnt use a bracket to install Yeah...Ive been down that road Prop |

CAN K&N NOT SUPPLY A BLANK BACKPLATE LIKE MAY OTHER FILTER MANUFACTURERS THAT YOU CAN DRILL TO SUIT YOUR OWN APPLICATION |

The K&N rep I spoke to suggested I could have a new backplate custom made. I think they're neglecting a niche in the market, but hey it's not my business. Hopefully Vic-Brit will remove the K&N listing for the 1500 from their catalog. Mike T |
