MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Order of Reconstruction
That sounds like a new honour! I have obtained a bodyshell for my 1500 midget. It is sound (all necessary welding already done). Its in fine shape apart from some minor surface rust. I'm just wondering what is the best order in which to reconstruct it. So far I'm thinking@ 1) rustproof, paint the underside 2) ditto interior and engine bay 3) paint exterior panels 4) fit all pipework (brakes, petrol etc) 5) fit wiring loom 6) F & R suspension 7) brake M/C and connect up brakes 8) clutch M/C and pipework 9) fit engine, gearbox and prop shaft 10) fit dash, lights & wire up all electrics 11) fit bonnet 12) fit out interior Is this a sensible order and have I missed anything? Guy, good ploint about windscreen, wipers and washers before dashboard (I've replace a windscreen before now without removing the dash and it was awful hard work). I suppose I should fit the wings and doors as a trial fit (and bash to fit if required) before any painting. |

Just reverse the dismantling procedure! ;-) Malcolm |

when I rebuilt mine from the ground up I fitted the suspension and got the car back on it's own wheels before I did anything else. When you're doing the plumbing you have to bend it around the front shox anyway and the rear plumbing is fastened to the axle. |

Bleed the clutch when the engine and gearbox are half way in. Saves a lot of bloody knuckles and cursing. |
