MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Outdoor covers
has anyone used a breathable outdoor cover which they'd recommend? The Midge is going to have to live in a partially enclosed car port(doors at one end, garage wall and wooden fence at the sides (eventually doors will be made at the other end)) and I'd like to give it some aditional protection against the elements. I'd really like an outdoor carcoon but funds don't run to that. Thanks, Jeremy |

I've used car covers for fully outdoor use and would say (my local) Cover Systems is the most honest about what a cover will actually do - http://www.cover-systems.co.uk/ whereas the Car Covers Monsoon cover I had was heavy to put on and off and the seams went within a couple of years - http://www.carscovers.co.uk/ I've seen good reports about the Halford ones |

To me, they look like huge mositure traps...but I dont have any thoughts ither way Prop |

I had an old Halfords one on a kit car, it ruined the paint, moisture got and made a right mess. If I had to store outside again, I'd build a simple mini garage out of some cheap sheet material - ply or corrugated plastic to keep direct rain and cats off. Malc |

Thanks Nigel I'll have a shufty at both the sites you've suggested. Jeremy |

Sorry Malc - we must have been posting simultaneously. I've had similar experiences with poorer quality covers as well and wanted something to give a bit of extra protection whilst it's in the car port. Jeremy |

Malc, it may be the more recent Halford ones that get much better reviews, obviously checks needed as I guess they might use different suppliers when each contract runs out I've had a couple of full size and a couple of top covers from Cover Systems and have been happy with them and one Car Covers Monsoon and not so happy with it |

Jeremy, Would it be practical to use tarps to close the other sides of the car port, and then not use a car cover? Charley |

Cheers Charley, I happen to have a couple of tarps but will need to weight them down as it's pretty windy here! Jeremy |

Some years ago I had to leave my midget outside almost unattended for three years through regrettably unavoidable circumstances, and I used a Hamilton Classics outside cover to protect it. When I eventually took the cover off the car was fresh inside and the exterior paintwork was as good as it was before I covered it. There are other breathable covers out there that do the same job, and they are not cheap, but you get what you pay for. |
