MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Overdrive conversion

Hi All,
I thought I'd read about the overdrive gearbox before but I cant seem to find any of the threads.

Anyway what is required to put the Triumph overdrive box on to the 1500 midget? Is it just a straight swap or will the propshaft need modifiying. Also are the mounts the same?
D Tetley

My understanding its a straight trade with a spitfire gear box.

No, it's not a straight swap. Modifications are needed. D, if you want to send me your email address, i'll send you an article from a guy in our club who did this.

I did this in about 1996 / 97 when I had a 1500.

Trevor Boicey did his car in about 2000 and wrote it up better description, with full photos details at:

It is a nice "period" style conversion, and pretty easy to do. Since O/D gearboxes may be getting hard to find you could consider the T9 5 speed box as an alternative as there are now kits for that conversion. I have had Spridgets with both. T9 is quieter and stronger but in some ways the overdrive gearbox is more fun, particularly on UK twisty roads!

D:
I'm gearing up to do this conversion this winter. The Trevor Boicy link Guy gives above scared me enough that I will perform the Frankenstein Operation on my donor car and make my mistakes there before cutting my "daily driver". I'm shooting for a minimal impact transplant.

Somebody on your side of the pond is selling this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=200242468908&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=010 Looks incomplete to me, but I'm just guessing.
