MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Paint

Is it still possible to purchase the paint colour Blaze Red for my MG midget?

Thanks Colin Blank
Colin Blank

Yes you can. Moss will sell you aerosol cans or pots of touch up paint.

There are places that will mix the colour for you if you are doing a full respray.

Thanks Chris.

It appears that Moss Europe supply the colours:

Is that the best approach or can you suggest a companies that will mix the colour for a respray?

Colin, I got mine from Jawel paints. Good quality and helpful. Good online site with info and colour range, or will mix to your requirements.

Autopaints in Brighton will also mix to any defined colour to order, celly or 2-pack.

Most automotive paint suppliers can mix the paint if you know the code. I believe Blaze Red (which is infact quite Orange in colour) has code BL16.
It can be quite hard to find the paint mixing formula on mixing machines at paint suppliers because the codes have gone through so many computer systems since it was current.
Last time I had Blaze Red mixed (2 x 1 litre tins 3 years ago at a company in Stockport called Colourtone) it took the operator 15 or 20 minutes to track it down on their system. Wherever it was hiding it still had the numeric code 16.
An exact match is not guaranteed but an experienced operator can alter the tint and supply an aerosol to try. Best to buy enough for a full respray.

" Best to buy enough for a full respray. "

...and a bit extra, just in case.

Horler has the code as BLVC16.

Colin,
always be cautious of any cross-referencing databases.

This is from Paul Hunt's excellent MGB site but the paint information will of course be relevant (and for many over Midget parts), paint manufacturers' paint colour codes - http://www.mgb-stuff.org.uk/paint.htm
