MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Paint Differences

I went out and had some paint mixed yesterday to tidy up some poorly repaired previous paintwork on my supposedly Blaze red midget. I know over the years cars fade and have resprays, but the Blaze in the can is more like an orange than what is on the car. Now i just wanted to know how much difference is there between Blaze and Vermillion ?
Looking at the MG codes in pictures it looks very similar but burnt. Again it is difficult to tell on a computer but my car may have been sprayed Vermillion, who knows. Perhaps a previous owner worked for the Post Office and mixed a bit of that red in as well.
Looks like a trip to the paintshop with the boot lid !

Vermillion is slightly redder than blaze.

Are there any internal areas that you can compare which may be original colour - i.e. behind door trims?

To be honest I was curious when I read the following "Blaze red Midget"? I have never considered Blaze as being red. If you think your car is reddish colour then it ain't blaze!

My first car was a Mini in Blaze and I would definately have described it orange.

Thanks

Bob he never said he thought it was red, he said it is called Blaze Red. And it is.

SL. Yes, take the boot lid, but as Dave suggests, show the guy the inside of it, preferably after you've given an area a good polish to get rid of any dirt etc.

I took it that he said is car was a red because he thought the blaze in the can was more of an orange see here

""but the Blaze in the can is more like an orange than what is on the car""

sounds to me like he believes his car is a red colur and not orange do you not agree?

When i had the Midget the seller told me it was Blaze. Now i know Blaze isnt a traditional red such as post box red or London bus red, but Blaze is always catagorized with red so I called it Blaze red. If I had called it Blaze orange then maybe I would have been more correct, then some pedant would have corrected me !
The Midget has had a respray sometime in its life and to all intents and purposes looks like it is Blaze (red) but it isnt. I know this because I have had two tins of Blaze mixed !
Blaze is more orangy than the paint on the Midget, Vermillion is yet again more orangy with a hint of burn to it. So therefor I have come to the conclusion that I am going to have to take the car or the boot lid at least to have yet more paint mixed.
A previous owner obviously has has a similar issue with paint as it is about three different shades around the door and rear arch.

As I said mate Blaze whilst being described as RED is definately not red and is orange. Tink you have now got that straight and can get it sorted.

I once did a respray for a young lady with an MGB who wanted it done in it's original colour Blaze. After the paint was on she came to see it before the masking was removed, she decided to change the colour to a proper red before the masking was removed. :)

Was the paint mixed in rattle-cans?

My brother has just bought a Blaze BGT and may need some paint.
Dave O'Neill 2

Dave, yes indeed the paint was mixed in rattle cans. Had it mixed at Jawel paints on Slade Road in Erdington.
S Langston

If you are having the paint mixed why not just take the car in the first place as if its been resprayed like most of them at some time in the past it could be any colour. This also gives the shop a chance to match it even if it has faded a bit.

If the paint isn't going to be any use to you, we may be able to do a deal if it matches.
Dave O'Neill 2

Thanks for the offer Dave. I am taking the boot lid to my usuall paint supplier and he will mix me some paint to match. As the car does show signs of a respray it is probvably a similar colour to Blaze but needs to be matched by a professional. The cans I have had mixed i will be using to prep the areas to be painted before the top coat is applied.

I had some Inca Yellow mixed by Jawel Paints once, for a Midget. It was a comjpletely different shade of yellow to the car.

I then had some mixed by Autopaint and it was very close. They gave me a bit of white tint to tone it down a bit.

Autopaint used to be a nationwide franchise, but are now trading as Classic Car Paint Supplies
