MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Paint quantity

Just about to start repainting my Sprite and am unsure how much paint I will need. Could anyone give me a clue as to roughly how many litres of cellulose primer and paint I might need to paint all the exterior and under bonnet area? It's a while since I painted something and it's not just a case of popping down to your local factors for celly anymore!

Cheers

Are you changing colour? If not then presumably the primer is not that important and may not even need to be all-over. I just blew over the race car with 1 litre of the same colour, so you should get away with 1 litre of primer and 2 of top coat. 2 and 3 will be ample.

Id figure 1 USA gallon, to do the extrerior, jambs and under side of bonnets... if its the entire car, every sq cm... Then Id buy 2 USA gallons total.

onno can give a better idea, he is in the middle of doing his.

What sort of spraying equipment are you using?

If it's HVLP, you tend not to lose too much into the atmosphere, so you can get away with less.

I once did a presentable respray on a 1500 midget with one litre of celly, although by the time I painted the last panel, it was about 80% thinners ;o)

I also resprayed a former race Midget with half a litre of synthetic enamel. Well, I didn't want to add too much weight, did I?!

3 liters should do and leave you a little for future touchup's

i bought 2.5 liters of primer and 3 of top.
in the end i bought a little bit more to be able to do the soon to arrive hard top.

sprayed the last coat today.......

Thanks chaps. Under bonnet is bare metal, rest of car will still have a bit of paint on though. Using a normal old style suction gun and not doing underside of panels. Think I will go with Onno's suggestion of 3 litres and see how I go on. Might leave a bit over for the odd accident! Thanks again.
