MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Petrol smell
Hi guys Been out for a spin in my 1500 near home there was a smell of petrol, had a look, no obvious leaks but the bottom of the k and n was damp with petrol, would the jet assembly be on its way out ? |

My thoughts as they roll out of my head.-
Could be lots of things Scott. Run the car with the air filters off and you might see what going on there. Could it be too much choke for too long, running too rich. Check choke cable, links and screws all fully close, with a little slack, when cable knob is pushed fully in. I'm all for simple non-invasive things first. Try running the engine and tapping the float bowl on the outside with a screwdriver handle in case the needle and seat have a trapped bit of debris that might dislodge. I would always also inspect/suspect piss-poor rubber in the fuel hoses for any petrol smell even if there petrol at the bottom of the filter. Many repairs boil down to clean and lubing so it might just be a matter of getting so debris or dirt out if you're lucky. Yes it's sunny here too but my drive will be tomorrow, already seen two shiny classics out on the roads. |

Over took the floats out to check the levels and the needle, hopefully it's done the trick ! Your clutch sorted? |

Yes thanks, proper test run tomorrow when all the shiny cars are off the road - and hopefully a run Xmas day before all the travelling to and from commitments, for others not me, I might make it a double curry day. Commitment on Boxing Day with my mate's family but I don't mind as he used to part own a micro-brewery so there's always ale on hand. :) |
