MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Plug Colours
Is five miles enough to get a reliable diagnosis on the plug colours? The maiden voyage on the road has just happened, to get some petrol. Brakes still not satisfactory, though. |

Hi Nick, i would say yes, my test route is a bit mixed in terms of engine load, which i would suggest is relevant for this task. |

Nick, my reference to taking the car for a short journey to sort out the spongy brakes wouldn't alone fix them. Indeed they may feel worse! It should shake bubbles in the hydraulics loose but still then requires them to be bled again. In fact after such a journey I would readjust the rear brakes first and then bleed the system once more. |

No no - I didn't expect a miracle; I just meant they still weren't satisfactory on the run. I did adjust and bleed when I got back, but still no improvement. I've now done everything people have suggested, except two of Willy's:-
1. slacking off the front hose connections while Laura prods the pedal 2. stamping I asked our local mechanic, who has a midget, and he said it's always the rears, and if you get a good pedal with the rears clamped off, forget about the fronts; stick the back end up in the air and keep pushing it through. I think you said that. |
