MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Priming fuel pump

Hi, it's been quite a while since I've posted to the board but have been a regular spectator.

My Frog has a mechanical fuel pump which is fine except that with intermittent use I find a lot of cranking is necessary at first start-up to bring fuel to the carbs. I need a way to prime the carburettors. My other car (Elan+2) has a similar problem so I might do this job there as well.

I was thinking of adding a Facet pump for priming purposes only, not running all time as wisdom appears to be that these are very noisey. As an incidental benefit this would also give me a get-me-home backup in case of failure of the existing pump.

But I'm not sure about a couple of things.

1. Will the Facet pump through the mechanical pump to prime the carbs?

2. Once engine is running will the mechanical pump draw through the (then switched off) Facet?

3. Must the Facet be placed near the tank or would it work in an under bonnet situation for this purpose? I appreciate the issues re fuel cut-off in event of a mishap but as this is for priming purposes only I don't anticipate a problem.

Anyone tried this?

regards
Dennis

Hi
If your Frogeye runs an original AC mechanical pump it will have a hand primer on it.

Hi Alan,
The original pump was toast - the pump now fitted came off a Mini (I think) - and no primer lever.
And I don't even want think about how difficult it is to even see the Delco pump on the Elan.

Hi
What about NOS / S/Hand AC mechanical pump with primer from someone like
Frogeye Spares Co

or Spridget Breaker Mike Jennings.

Seems simpler solution?

Thanks Alan,
I might try that. I'd started off thinking about how to prime the Elan's carbs - which can a bit tempremental - and then thought a similar solution might work for the Frog, but an original mechanical pump would seem a simpler solution on the Frog.

Buy or get of a scrap diesel car the hand priming pump and fit it in the line just before the carbs.
