MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Propshaft U'Js
I have been trying to fit new universal joints into the propshaft of my Mk 2 midget. The ones I bought were inexpensive, but seem to be a poor fit / do not fit at all. Does anyone know if there is a supplier who still makes these to the old Hardy Spicer spec ? I don't mind paying more if the quality is good and they fit ! Failing that, which supplier would anyone recommend for U/Js please ? Thanks. |

In what way do they not seem to fit? |

I did mine recently with as you say "inexpensive" UJs. What a bugger of a job, old ones were a PITA to get out, new ones were a PITA to get in! I think it is just one of those jobs. I used a bench vise and a suitably sized socket to squeeze them in. One of them I struggled as one of the needle rollers inside slipped and ended up lying in the bottom of the UJ, so that you couldn't fully push the barrel onto the spigot. Cheers, Malcolm |

Thanks guys. One of caps with the needle rollers in would not press fully into the hole even using a bench press (carefully) to do it. We tried two or three times with no joy. It just seemed to be too big to slide fully home. Perhaps I just had a duff new one ? |
