MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Quarter light

Replaced drivers quarterlight frame etc. on the drivers side as old one broke and bodged by PO.

Have put in second hand one and new rubber seal. All together OK but now bolted up into the door the quarterlight window glass doesn't fit (touch) the rubber at the top of the stainless frame. (the catch feels a bit loose as well). When the assembly is out it does touch. (forgot the seal strip the first reassembly .. doh). The drivers up and down window is tighter than it was but I have checked the curve on the long runner where the glass slides on the new one against the old one and the curve is the same so assuming its just that the new runner has stood with no use for a while and just needs to be worn in.

Anyone got any advice as to what to pay attention to in the door assembly or how to adjust to get the quarterlight fitting better? Its an annoyance more than anything. Or is this how some of them are? My back in the 70s cars are the only experience I have of quarterlights and I seem to remember them fitting but I didn't have a midget back then. (moggy, marina, victor 101, J2 van).

There is an adjustable bracket arrangement at the bottom end of that front glass channel that may help to get it aligned correctly. Its not just the curvature of the channel itself that is important, but the angle that it is secured at.

Yes, Guy, makes sense. Thought the two bolt heads were just a bracket fixing point that the bottom of the runner just slotted into. (Its a bit busy in that there door to see anything). If bottom of channel can be pulled towards centre of car, top corner will go out and window closer tighten. Will have closer look tomorrow. I expect the door quarterlight frame doesn't fit against the windscreen properly either now that you mention adjusting it that way so will offer it up and look at that for guidance as well before final door assembly.
Thanks, Dave.

Dave,
In my experience it is very much a hit and miss type of adjustment as to whether it works out or not. Or in my case rather more miss than hit!
