MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Rear adjuster thread stripped
Hi, I have my MOT tomorrow and set about giving the car a once over. Good job I did as the passenger side rear brake cylinders had let go. I replaced the offending part's and took it for a test run and all was good. However............ when I returned and set about readjusting the rear shoes, the drivers side had no adjustment and after stripping it down it looks as though the threads in the backplate had stripped. Is there anything that can be done or will I need to change the backplate? I'll still take the car for the MOT tomorrow as there may be other things to attend to!! Thanks Mark |

Hi, the car passed by the skin of its teeth but with advisories on the handbrake and slight play on the top kingpin to shock joint and it dripped oil on the testers head!!! Will need to address these issues asap can anyone advise on the backplate or could it be the adjuster (although the threads didn't look stripped on this) Thanks Mark |

Sounds like you need a new backplate! If the adjuster is ok, probably a previous owner has stripped the threads getting the old one out, maybe due to rusting. Cheers John |
